SEVEN’S DEADLY SINS FAILDate: 17 July 2003
The Seven Network has conceded defeat in their rigorous union-busting campaign after staff voted to reject a non-union deal. While Seven did not allow scrutineers to monitor the count, Alliance polling during the campaign indicates that nearly 80% of staff would have rejected the agreement outright. This result could be the greatest rejection of a section 170LK agreement since its inception. The campaign came in the face of hostile opposition from management and included blocking union email access to members and taking court action to prevent the Alliance calling members to discuss the ballot. The Seven Network have also announced a reinstatement of their email ban effective immediately. The last agreement expired in July 2002.
