Support the Big Picture in ZimbabweDate: 19 June 2008
You can help support democracy and workers' rights in Zimbabwe - just by showing your face. Lovemore Matombo and Wellington Chibebe - President and General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) - are facing trial following their arrest at a May Day rally early this year. As part of their bail conditions, they are banned from addressing public gatherings or political rallies for the duration of the election campaign. Along with other groups that make up the democracy movement in Zimbabwe, trade unionists are suffering increasing pressure and harassment at the hands of the Mugabe régime as the Presidential run-off election draws nearer. Lovemore and Wellington may not be able to show their face in public for fear of reprisals - but that doesn't mean that you can't. Become part of the Big PictureBritain's Trade Union Congress (TUC) are making a giant photo mosaic of Lovemore and Wellington - using pictures of hundreds of their supporters from around the world - and want to use your photo as one tiny part of it.TUC will print the image on a large banner as a focus for a rally in London on 23 June and distribute copies of the image to other international demonstrations and to the media. How you can helpTake a photo of yourself with your digital camera and email it to zim@tuc.org.uk or use your cameraphone and send it by MMS to +0044 7546 229055.More information: Click here to visit the British TUC's campaign page
