PSA ban on use Cessna 310 lifted

The PSA ban on the use of Cessna 310s for juvenile transport has been lifted.

The Public Service Association and the Department of Juvenile Justice met to discuss concerns with the use of Cessna 310 Aircraft for the transport of juvenile offenders.

The Department has now advised the PSA that they are already undertaking an extensive risk evaluation of the Cessna 310 aircraft and air transport procedures. In addition, the Department also undertakes to:

• where possible, limit the use of Cessna 310;
• authorise a blanket use of restraining belts, if deemed necessary by Transport staff, whilst in transit;
• request that Wagga Air remove the seat directly behind the co-pilot to allow better access and surveillance of detainees.

The PSA has directed members in the Transport Unit of the Department of Juvenile Justice to lift the ban on the use of the Cessna 310 aircraft.
