What women wantDate: 02 October 2008
What women want - a new media script for female politicians.... An NSW Fabians event. Politicians in Australia are subject to media and community stereotypes that follow them during their careers. The portrayal of female politicians can often be considered hostile, sexist and stereotypical - (see Julia Gillard and "deliberately barren"). But with women holding some of the very senior political positions in Australia, it's timely to discuss whether this typecasting resembles the reality of modern politics and ask the question - what do female politicians really want from the media?
