The aim of the UnionTeach project is to make available an online resource for NSW teachers that provides an insight into both the historical and contemporary role of unions in Australia. Unions have not only been involved in the way Australian workplaces have developed but they have also played an integral role in the shaping of Australia's economic, social, and political landscape. The contribution of unions to Australian society has been much broader than simply being involved in workplaces.
The first experience of work for many young people occurs while they are still at schools. UnionTeach will help NSW teachers provide their students with a better understanding of Australia’s industrial relations system, how it operates and the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees within that system. In particular, the Work Education 2003 Syllabus is supported with classroom activites, resources, factsheets and other information.
UnionTeach has been developed and resourced by the Labor Council of NSW, the NSW Teachers Federation and the NSW & ACT Independent Education Union. The project is supported by the NSW Department of Education & Training.
